Warner Music Group collaborates with Skype

Warner Music Group has announced a deal with VoIP giants Skype to provide ringtones for download on the net. As a result of this deal, consumers in the United States would be able to download ring tones culled from songs by Warner artists. These include big names like Madonna, Green Day, Mike Jones, and D4L.

Each ringtone would cost around USD 1.50 as per the statement issued by Warner Music. Skype would also get an exciting opportunity to enter this growing market of selling digital content on the not. They are currently the market leaders in the software applications providing VoIP services and were recently acquired by ecommerce giants eBay.

Alex Zubillaga, an executive vice president at Warner Music added his views on this new service from the company: “We are excited that more than 70 million Skype users around the world will now have the ability to enjoy content from Warner Music Group artists.” The online market for ringtones is growing at a phenomenal rate with sales accounting to nearly $400 million, or 36 percent, of total digital music revenues of $1.10 billion in 2005.
