Vodafone Group launches Vodafone Radio DJ music service
World’s second largest mobile service provider Vodafone has now entered the very crowded market of radio operators. The company has launched a new service called Vodafone Radio DJ. This new service would enable their customers to listen to music being offered on satellite radio. Customers would be able to subscribe to these private radio stations through their 3G (third generation) cell phones.
The company said in a statement that the subscribers to this new service would have a choice to chose from hundreds of thousands of songs, both current popular hits and back catalog, from the world’s largest record companies, and many smaller independent labels. They have partnered with Sony’s NetServices unit and would be launching this in markets like United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Portugal in the coming months.
The longer-term goal is to launch the service in around 20 countries around the world within a year. The company has a very large user base of around 133 million subscribers and this new service means that they are entering one of the oldest technology markets around. However, Radio market has seen a revolution in the recent months with newer technologies coming in enhancing the experience to a totally new level.
Tech giants and world’s second largest mobile manufacturer Motorola recently announced their entry in this market when they showcased their iRadio technology.
