Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 might replace Firefox with Chrome
Industry sources are reporting that Canonical is considering replacing Mozilla Firefox web browser with Google Chrome (or Chromium) in the next edition of Ubuntu Netbook Edition.
Ubuntu Netbook Edition is designed for netbooks and as a result is designed for low performance devices with smaller display screens.
Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 could see Chromium replacing Firefox if sources are to be believed.
It is a pretty acceptable fact that Chrome is currently much faster than Firefox. And it has an open source edition in the form of Chromium.
Firefox is currently the default web browser on almost all popular Linux distributions including Ubuntu.
It would be interesting to see what the Ubuntu developers decide in the coming weeks.
Chrome is of course the base of the upcoming Google Chrome OS which is essentially a browser based operating system for netbooks.
