TweetClaims: Get an alert when your choice of Twitter ID becomes available
Twitter has become one of the most popular social networks on the web and it is as essential to have a Twitter ID as it is to have a proper website for your brand name.
However, like domain names… good Twitter usernames are hard to find these days. Twitter might be a relatively new service but a lot of people blocked good names but never cared to use them for a long period of time.
Twitter has been working on making the old and unused usernames on their network available for re-use and TweetClaims is one service that you can use.
The service works simply. You register on the site and list the usernames you want to monitor. TweetClaims keeps an eye on the usernames and alert you the day they are released by the company.
TweetClaims claims that they have found ‘984 names in 10632 requests for 2909 users since April 21, 2010’. This number is expected to grow in the coming months.
For brand owners however, the easier method would be to get in touch with Twitter and demand to get hold of your trademarked term. We have been successful in the past with this approach. Of course you need to have a good reason to get your hands on a blocked username officially.
