TVS Motor has become the third largest seller of two wheelers in the Indian market. They have overtaken Bajaj Auto to take the top spot.

Hero MotoCorp continues to dominate the Indian market with Honda at the second place.

TVS has outsold Bajaj in the second quarter of the year and they are likely to maintain the lead in the near future.

Bajaj has been struggling to maintain their position at the top after reducing focus on the scooters market. Honda saw the opportunity and took the lead there. Hero of course has dominated them in the bike segment for a long time now.

Bajaj has stated that they are focused on dominating the same segment in multiple markets instead of focusing on sales figure in one market. They are also focusing on profitability rather than numbers.

TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad have announced a collaboration which would see the two companies develop products together for sale in the Indian and international markets.

The two companies would focus on the sub-500cc bike segment. TVS would sell these bikes in India. BMW would sell these models in the international markets under their own branding.

This is great news for TVS as they get access to new generation engine technology from BMW. BMW benefits as they would gain from the expertise of TVS in developing low cost bikes with less powerful engines.

Indian two wheeler company TVS Motor is expected to announce today a collaboration with BMW Motorrad.

BMW Motorrad is the motorcycle division of the German automaker. The two companies are likely to share technology as part of this deal.

TVS would gain access to latest engine technology if a deal is indeed in place. The company is struggling to compete against the likes of Hero MotoCorp and Honda India. Bajaj of course is also a phenomenal competitor which access to engine technology through multiple partnerships.

TVS Motor Company launched its premium executive deluxe 125cc motorcycle, TVS Phoenix 125 in Chennai today. Dubbed by the company to be one of the most exciting products to roll off its lines, TVS Phoenix 125 is targeted at consumers who aspire to upgrade from just commuting to those who crave for a spirited ride experience without compromising on mileage.

TVS Phoenix 125 is loaded with premium features; and backed by an all new, highly refined 125cc EcoThrust engine, that provides excellent pickup with best in class fuel efficiency. The bike promises to be a seamless combination of premium style and comfort with unique, first of its kind features in its segment.

For the first time in India, TVS Phoenix offers car like hazard lamps to enhance added safety for the rider.

Riding comfort of TVS Phoenix 125 has been maximized by way of five-step adjustable ‘series spring’ suspension, high response damper and ergonomically positioned handle bar for superior riding control.

Engineered to magnify the joy of riding, TVS Phoenix 125 is equipped with EcoThrust technology: dynamic tuning which regulates the flow of petrol to deliver optimum combination of power and fuel economy. TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS is priced at around Rs. 79,000 and it comes equipped with Anti-lock Braking System.

ABS has already become a popular offering on cars in the Indian market. It is good to see that bike manufacturers are also incorporating it on their products.

The company is only selling a white colored model of this variant.

TVS stated that if the demand for this model is high, they would launch a similar ABS loaded version of the 160cc edition. They are also working on a 200cc edition of Apache which could be launched before the end of the year.

TVS Motor Company has come out with their sales report for the month of July.

The Indian two wheeler maker sold 1,63,106 bikes and scooters last month.

This is an improvement of around 35% compared to the same period last year.

The company said: “Cumulative two-wheeler sales for the period April to July, 2010, increased 32 per cent from 4,68,085 units in the same period of the previous year to 6,19,147 units in the current period. Three-wheeler sales of the company crossed the three thousand mark for the second consecutive month, recording 3,108 units in July, 2010, in comparison to 1,026 units in July, 2009.”

TVS Motor Company has announced that they are halting the production of their electric scooter models due to lack of demand in the Indian market.

The company in fact also has a three wheeler model powered by electricity but they are delaying the launch.

TVS said: “We have an electric three-wheeler, which we had planned to introduce but there is no market for such products. So we don’t have any plans to launch it now.”

TVS sells a model named Scooty Teenz Electric which is powered with electricity.

The company is now concentrating on their regular models which continues to do well in the market.

TVS Motor Company has announced the launch of their TVS Jive motorcycle in the North Indian region.

TVS Jive is a special product as it comes with an auto-clutch. It is designed for customers who are not comfortable using clutch to change gears.

The company said: “We will follow this launch by entering the market of Uttar Pradesh. Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are very important markets for us. This new motorcycle will fuel our growth in North India. We expect to sell 15,000-20,000 units per month in these territories.”

TVS added: “We have sold 65,000 units this year. With this launch and aggressive marketing we expect to touch the 1-lakh figure by March 2011.”

The bike gives a fuel efficiency of 55-60 km a liter.

TVS Motor has finally launched their Flame motorcycle model with the controversial twin spark plug technology.

TVS Flame DS 125 has been priced at around Rs. 49000 and it is targeted at the executive segment.

The company said that they have launched this bike after obtaining all necessary permissions and clearances in accordance with law.

TVS was involved in a lawsuit related to this technology with Bajaj Auto which uses a similar technology in their bikes.

The company said: “We will comply with SC directive and keep an account of the sales. We have re-launched TVS Flame DS 125 in south and hope to cover other markets in three to four months.”
