Nokia had to apologize when one of the videos promoting a feature of their recently launched Lumia 920 smartphone was found to be faked.
No one was surprised as it happens all the time. But consumers today expect companies to show real features on real devices without any simulation.
I might have found another similar instance in another ad. Nokia is currently running a television ad showcasing the City Lens app for their Lumia branded devices.
Nokia City Lens is an augmented reality app that superimposes names of places while you are seeing them through the camera on the phone.
The ad features Shah Rukh Khan and it is supposed to be shot in Connaught Place in Delhi.
Here is the advertisement:
Here is a screenshot:
Here are the places highlighted on the phone’s display:
old town theatre
I am no longer a regular visitor to Connaught Place in Delhi but I can safely say that these are not real locations in that area. I would like to hear your comments about this.

Shah Rukh Khan to do a Google Plus Hangout today
As expected, Shah Rukh Khan continues to expand his Ra.One marketing deal with Google and he is now going to do a Google+ Hangout later today with his fans.
All you need to do is to add him to a circle of your choice on the Google Plus network and wait for 3PM today.
Shah Rukh Khan has a verified profile on Google Plus for a while now. The account sees frequent posts. It is not clear how many people are following him on Plus as that box is hidden from public view.
Remains to be seen how helpful this hangout is going to be for Google Plus in India. SRK on the other hand is doing all he can to promote his upcoming flick Ra.One.
Shah Rukh Khan might be on Google Plus already
Shah Rukh Khan is working extremely hard to ensure that Ra.One does not bomb at the box office.
Ra.One is being heavily promoted through all the possible channels. That includes Google AdSense and YouTube.
He has been also very active on social media to ensure that there is enough interactivity with the regular movie going audience.
And we believe that he has already created an account on Google Plus. It is hard to tell whether it’s him because the profile is not verified at the moment.
Would be interesting to see if this account on Google Plus network is given the verification stamp in the coming days! And how much this helps Google in getting more people to join the Plus network.
Nokia to manufacture and sell dual-sim phones in India
Nokia has announced plans to target the dual-sim mobile phone market in India with some new models that would be introduced in the near future.
These new models would be manufactured here in India.
The company has just crossed a major milestone at their manufacturing unit here. Company’s 500 millionth unit was manufactured here.
Nokia is going to auction the phone through nokia500million.com and the winner would get a chance to meet their brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan.
Khan would be personally signing the device for the winner.
Shah Rukh Khan to remain brand ambassador of Zee Dish TV
Zee Dish TV has announced that they have decided to continue their relationship with Shah Rukh Khan.
Shah Rukh Khan has been the brand ambassador for Zee Dish TV since 2007.
The company said: “Shah Rukh has helped our brand grow. Our advertisements with him have got great response from consumers. We are very happy with the results of the association and have decided to renew the contract.”
He features in most of their print, television and online ads.
Tata Sky DTH has Aamir Khan as their brand ambassador.
Shah Rukh Khan joins Twitter
Update: The account is not verified by Twitter. So, we cannot really be sure about the authenticity of this news…
Shah Rukh Khan has become the latest Indian celebrity to join Twitter.
Shah Rukh Khan is perhaps the biggest star from the Bollywood and he is extremely popular around the world.
He spoke about the decision to join Twitter: “Being extremely shy, I never thought I would be here (on Twitter). But my friend Karan Johar insisted that I should learn to share my life. Thanks everyone, this is really sweet…didn’t expect such a warm welcome. Love to you all.”
Khan further spoke about his absence from the big screen: “Injury has kept me away from making more films. Will work my back off to be around more… the shoulder feels strong and so do I.”
My Name Is Khan is his next big film which also stars Kajol. This movie is likely to create new records in the Indian film industry.
Apparently, most Indian stars tend to join social networks like Twitter and Facebook before the launch of their new movie. Shah Rukh Khan joining Twitter seems to be part of a similar strategy. We expect him to talk a lot about ‘My Name Is Khan’… Would be interesting to see if he continues to post after the launch of the movie.

New look Shah Rukh Khan in Zee Dish TV advertisement
The Indian DTH market has seen intense competition from new entrants, particularly Sun DTH and Big TV. Amidst all this, the market leader Dish TV, has managed to maintain its lead over its competition, using a host of cost effective packages, a strategy that has augured well in the price sensitive Indian market.
Now they are coming up with another ad featuring their brand ambassador, superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in an entirely new look. SRK is shown as an old man, romancing Tanvi Azmi. While SRK has played an old man in films like Veer Zaara earlier, the look here is different from anything that has been seen before.
The ad has been conceptualised by Prasoon Joshi of Taare Zameen Par fame, and directed by Anurag Basu.
We await the release of this ad.
Shah Rukh Khan to feature in Nokia advertising
The latest news from the mobile market in India is pretty amusing. Nokia has now roped in Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to feature in their advertisements.
This is amusing because Nokia is the dominating player in the Indian market by a comfortable margin and they have few reasons to get SRK to promote the already popular brand.
Devinder Kishore, director (marketing), Nokia spoke about this new development: “As a brand we have always ranked high on facets such as reliability, authenticity and our image among the youth, something which Shahrukh too stands for.”
Interestingly, SRK is the first major celebrity to be endorsing Nokia mobile devices in the Indian market. Naseeruddin Shah is one exception having featured in some Nokia promos.
