Myntra.com, India’s leading fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform has partnered with Nike India, the official apparel sponsor of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to provide personalized Team India jerseys to cricket fans across the country. WPP announced today that it has agreed to acquire, subject to regulatory approval, the assets of AKQA Holdings, Inc. (“AKQA”), the world’s leading independent and most awarded digital agency.

Nike+ GPS available as a free download for a couple of days
Nike is celebrating the fifth birthday of their partnership with Apple by giving away their Nike+ GPS mobile app for free for a couple of days.
This app uses GPS on the iPhone to track the user’s movement and enables him to keep track of exercise routines.
We are big fans of RunKeeper which is a free alternative to this service platform.
But if you do own an iPhone, it would not hurt to download the Nike’s app right away!
Nike announces a major job cut
Nike has announced that they are now going to cut 5 percent of its 35,000-strong global workforce.
The company said that these job cuts are necessary to remain competitive in this tough economy.
Nike revealed that they have already halted production at three of its Chinese factories.
The job cuts would involve workers located at its Beaverton, Oregon, headquarters.
Nike added about the new developments: “Our new structure sharpens our consumer focus globally to drive continued growth. The decision to reduce our workforce has been a difficult and challenging one. We remain a growth company and we know these changes have created a stronger organization that will enable us to invest in our most significant opportunities.”
Nike online sales seeing a major boost
Nike’s US chief Mark Parker has stated that the company is seeing a major increase in sales through online outlets.
He said: “We’ve seen a fairly dramatic increase in online sales.”
Parker was speaking at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
He said that this was probably because a lot of customers avoid driving to stores to conserve gas.
The company last month reported a 9 percent rise in quarterly net profit showcasing that they are pretty safe from the current global economic crisis.
Nike sues Wal-Mart for Patent Infringement
Nike does not sell its products in Wal-Mart as they believe it would devalue their brand.
The company has however sued the US based retailing giant for patent infringement.
Nike is claiming that Wal-Mart is selling shoes which resemble their patented designs and technologies.
The company claims that some models of shoes being sold on Wal-Mart too closely resemble its Nike Shox footwear.
They are asking the courts to direct Wal-Mart to stop selling these products in their stores. They are also seeking damages.
Wal-Mart has refused to comment on this lawsuit.

Samsung miCoach music-mobile phone to take on Apple Nike+
Samsung is collaborating with Adidas to launch a new mobile phone package named miCoach.
This collaboration is apparently aimed at the collaboration between Apple and Nike which provides the customers with an iPod solution which monitors their exercise routine.
Samsung’s package comes with a music-mobile phone in addition to a heart-rate monitor, a sensor to attach to a pair of running shoes and a Web workout journal.
They have an advantage over the combo solution provided by Apple and Nike as the device works as a mobile phone along with a portable media player.
Samsung miCoach however lacks when it comes to storage capacity (1GB compared to lot more for Apple iPod Nano).
Sophia Kim, a Samsung representative said in a statement that the system would first be available in Germany.
