MMI India today launched the 16th edition of electronica India 2015 and productronica India 2015, the three day (9th- 11th September 2015) electronics and production trade fairs at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. NZ/India Cleantech Investors Announce $100mn Partnership

London/New Delhi headquartered cleantech and green infrastructure investors ETI Dynamics, and New Zealand’s first dedicated cleantech investors Greenhouse Capital, today announced a exclusive partnership to mobilise $100m to expedite the export of New Zealand clean technologies into Indian, Asian and African markets.

The partnership was jointly announced by ETI Dynamics CEO, Sanmit Ahuja, at the first bi-annual joint ETI Dynamics/Greenhouse Capital Cleantech Investment Forum. “New Zealand has a great deal of innovation to offer the world and ETI Dynamics is delighted to be working closely with Greenhouse Capital to realise the many growth opportunities available,” he said.

Ahuja further said, “The maturing of cleantech over the past decade and the emergence of cost-effective sustainable solutions will ensure that sustainable innovation becomes the norm in large industrial verticals before 2020. NASSCOM to spearhead ICT session at the international Smart Cities India 2015 expo

Adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will ensure efficient use of resources, socio-economic development, and help transform India into a country of digitally connected cities. Disability is a condition, not a disease: Techshare India 2014

BarrierBreak in association with National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), Royal National Institute of Blind People (UK) is organizing the 4th edition of Techshare India 2014 – the country’s only Pan-Disability Conference and Exhibition. Techshare India 2014 will be held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on 13th and 14th February, 2014. Microsoft is the main sponsor for the event.

In India, 70 million Persons With Disabilities (PWD) are constantly struggling for respectable employment. They are young, and they want to make a living just like anybody else. However, the rest of the world seems to be far more sensitive to the PWD population. A 2012 OECD report put Britain’s spend at 2.4 per cent of national GDP on benefit for PWD, with the US at 1% of GDP and Japan at 0.4% of GDP. Norway and Iceland, both, lead at 2.8 %. Compare this with India, where Union budgets since 2008 show India spends 0.0009% of its GDP on disability. That makes Norway and Iceland spend more than 3000 times that of India, in % of GDP terms.

Hence, the need for platforms that discuss what needs to be done at the Government, social and developmental levels, to take this dialogue ahead, is very important. One such dialogue is Techshare India – an event to promote accessible technology for Persons With Disabilities. The keynote at Techshare 2014 will be delivered by Stefan Sjostrom, Vice President, Public Sector Asia, Microsoft Corporation, where he will stress on how the lives of persons with disabilities can be transformed through the power of technology.

Ashoka Fellow Shilpi Kapoor, organizer Techshare India 2014 said, “In India, accessibility and inclusion of PWD remains a challenge. Bus stands and railway stations are almost impossible to access for the disabled. Not only that, access to technology is difficult for people with disabilities – like ticket kiosks at train stations or television menus for blind people. Visiting retail stores and other public places like markets are still a nightmare for people with disabilities. Even basic amenities like public toilets are unfriendly for these people. And these are young people. 50% of PWDs are below the age of 30, which means a loss of contribution to GDP in real terms.”

Other partners include NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India), Paypal, CBM (an international organization, committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in the poorest communities of the world) ADOBE, NASSCOM Foundation, and G3ict.

A Supreme Court (Oct 2013) directive to reserve 3% of government jobs across categories for PWDs, based on total vacancies and not posts identified, has been a crucial step in the right direction.
The Government will table for passage in the upcoming Parliament session a new bill for PWD that provides for 5% reservation in public sector jobs. The Union Cabinet had approved in Dec 2013, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill to replace the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunity Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act of 1995. The bill covers a variety of issues relating to people with disabilities such as physical, mental and multiple disabilities. Yet the wheels are not churning because inclusion has to begin very early.

Adds Shilpi, “There is a clear need to link the issues of PWD with the mainstream of the society and the Government, and make their development a key component of policies. While it was felt initially that disability was a medical problem, and that it had to be dealt only by doctors, today, the medical model has been replaced with the developmental and sociological model.”
Needless to say, technology is a very big part of the developmental model. “In a country where 7% of the population is disabled, it is imperative to innovate to create more opportunities for the under-served and improve the overall quality of their life. India to get Android Nation stores through a collaboration between Google and Spice Global

Google is collaborating with BK Modi’s Spice Global to launch Android Nation branded retail stores to Indian market.

These stores would be focused on selling Android smartphones and tablets along with other accessories.

Spice Global would be responsible for running these stores. The first one is expected to open in the Select Citywalk mall in Delhi.

Spice Global aims to convert some of their own retail stores to Android Nation branding in the future as well.

India is the second market globally to get Google’s approval for these stores. Android Nation stores already exist in Indonesia where Google has partnered with a local player Erafone.

This track has been designed by Herman Tilke and is scheduled to host its first grand prix later this year.

There are still some formalities pending but we assume that the track would clear everything on time for the first Indian Grand Prix this year!

The track is located around 40 kilometers from the capital city of Delhi and is situated near the Gautam Budh Nagar district close to Great Noida.

Maruti Suzuki Kizashi is expected to arrive in the Indian market next year.

This would be the most expensive sedan ever sold by the company in the Indian market.

And to ensure that customers are impressed, Maruti is buying new properties in some of the most upmarket locations in major cities to open new dealerships.

This includes showrooms in Lokhandwala in Mumbai’s Andheri and Indraprastha in central Delhi.

Maruti said: “There was a need to start a retail format that would help us to cushion-in our dealers on the high-retail prices. We spent around Rs 50-60 crore on real estate in Mumbai. This is much beyond the means of local dealers. Hence, we managed to get places in the right locations, while micro issues of sales and service are left to dealers”.

They are also working on a plan that would result in a uniform look in all their showrooms.
