Mumbai, September 2017: After successful openings at Hyderabad Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mumbai for promotional tours of the trade show to raise awareness about various environmental issues in the region as well as the discuss latest solutions and innovations which are in the market; IFAT India 2017 will be held at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Center, Goregaon from 26th to 28th September 2017.

IFAT India is India’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, refuse and recycling. IFAT India 2017 is a three- day trade show which is expecting over 170 participants from 18 countries. The 10th edition of WIN INDIA, India’s leading trade fair for manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, factory automation and heavy engineering, commenced at the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra – Kurla Complex, Mumbai on 1st December 2016. “The national manufacturing policy aims to provide 100 million jobs, out of which 25% new jobs will be hi-tech and the remaining 75% will be medium tech. Currently 80% of the present jobs are low tech and in the capital goods sector alone, we have the challenge of training an additional 5 million into medium and hi-tech skill sets. For this we have set up the Capital Goods Skill Development Council which provides the framework and skill standards for these jobs. Under the new capital goods scheme, we are going to set up 5 mega skill training centres in the 5 regions of the country which will provide the necessary knowledge content. The Council enlists and certifies training institutions which are being proposed on an entrepreneurship model, and in some cases DHI will also provide grants to create training capacities. This should create the framework to substantially share the load to train 5 million workers in the next 5 years”, said Shri. Girish Shankar, Secretary, Department of Heavy Industry.

The key highlights of the three trade fairs include FICCI-DHI CEO Roundtable on “Automation and Job Creation”, an Intralogistics Conference comprising of a keynote on Smart, Connected, Agile – Strategic Impact of Intralogistics 4.0, a panel discussion on Supply Chain in Digital World and a special address on How ASEAN & China will shape our Supply Chain.

The keynote covered the challenges and solutions in Telematics & Fleet Management, Automation, E-Commerce, Energy Conservation and IIOT and their application in Intralogistics while the panel discussion explored the future direction of supply chains in a connected world and provided an overview of solutions that will leverage the technological innovations. The major focus in the special address was on the initiatives proposed by China – ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ (SREB) and ‘ Maritime Silk Road’ (MSR) and how these initiatives have the ability to re-define the Indian Company.

Other key highlights of the trade fairs included a 2nd edition of the Automatic Training Zone which was organized in association of the Automatic Industry Association and a CEO Conclave which was organized by the Fluid Power Society of India. The Training Zone has programs which will address topics like ‘Enhancement’ in manufacturing. A special session was held on ‘Demand Generation & Challenges of Capital Goods Sector’. Cycling towards Glory: Sun Pedal Ride enters into Guinness World Records

Intersolar India, a leading trade fair for solar energy, becomes the title sponsor for solar bicycle project initiated by IIT Bombay alumnus. Every year, Intersolar India takes place in Mumbai to showcase the latest trends and innovation in the field of solar technology. Organized by Messe München India, Solar Promotion GmbH and Freiburg Management under Marketing International GmbH, Intersolar India will take place from 19-21 October 2016 at Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.

Solar powered bicycle project by IIT Bombay alumni
Intersolar India has proudly sponsored ‘Sun Pedal Ride’, an innovative initiative of Mr. Sushil Reddy, an IIT Bombay alumni from the Department of Energy and Science. As part of the project, Reddy has ridden a solar powered electric bicycle across 5 Indian states and covered over 7,000 kilometers in about 70 days. The ‘Sun Pedal Ride’ act has also been recognized and entered into Guinness World records.

The ride was completed with a support vehicle and support crew, sponsored by Intersolar India, providing necessary support to make this project a reality. Apart from Intersolar India, the renewable energy group Mahindra Susten and Applied Materials were the co-sponsors for the ride. A solar panel was connected to the back of the bicycle and was powered an electric motor allowing the bicycle to gain speed up to 20 kmph using solar energy, which was christened as the ‘Sun Pedal Ride’. Throughout the route, Reddy conducted numerous discussions and presentations in schools and colleges to educate students on the benefits and applications of solar energy. He also encouraged employing different ways of using solar energy.

In addition to demonstrating use of solar energy in day to day life, the ‘Sun Pedal Ride’ undertook a crowd funding campaign to bring solar power to a rural school in Jatwara. Hockey Village India, an NGO which promotes sports and education in rural sectors actively became part of the initiative. There are frequent power cuts in these rural schools and solar power will help these children to study and progress in their lives. The NGO is run by a former German National Hockey player, Andrea Thumshirn. Andrea met Sushil in July 2015 and discussed the plan to get solar power for the school.

By sponsoring ‘Sun Pedal Ride’, Intersolar India continued to break barriers in terms of supporting innovation and connecting with consumers. During the three-day event, Intersolar India will showcase a working model of the solar powered electric bicycle, the same ridden by Reddy.

Strong government focus on Solar Energy

Under the vision of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), solar applications will grow tremendously resulting to an estimated requirement 300,000 skilled solar professionals comprising of multiple skill set ranging from research, design, engineering, installation, operation and maintenance, sales and marketing. Hence, there is an urgent need to educate and empower people, making them aware about the opportunities available in the upcoming solar energy sector.

UBM India’s 4th edition of CBME India reaffirms industry growth

Mumbai-based Jyoti Dogra tells an epic story using the most rudimentary element of theatre — the actor’s body — in the play, Toye. Toye will be presented at Studio Safdar on February 20 and 21, Ambedkar University on February 22, Kirori Mal College on February 24th, Shiv Nadar University on February 25, Akshara Theatre on February 27 and Gati Dance Collective on February 28

After seven years without rain, the people of a village are crying out for water, food and God’s grace. Playwright Girish Karnad conjures up a vivid landscape in Agni aur Varsha, in which villagers are as parched as the earth around them. The play is a reworking of a myth from the Mahabharata. Mumbai-based director-actor Jyoti Dogra, working on Karnad’s text, reduces the entire opening descriptions into one poignant image. Actors move in slow motion — as if time itself were weary — and gradually raise their faces and arms to the sky. From the silence, comes the sound of quiet humming that fills the stage with a sense of desolation. The ability of the actors to convey a narrative with minimal action or dialogues is the mainstay of Dogra’s theatre. She has adapted Agni aur Varsha into a play called Toye (Sanskrit for water), which will have its first tour of Delhi this month.

The play is about different kinds of hungers, from the hunger for power to a hunger for love to a hunger for redemption. I was interested in looking at this hunger in the bodies of the actors, how such an obsession travels in the blood. As an organism, if I am taken up with it, what happens to me? Agni aur Varsha is set in the backdrop of the drought and a seven-year fire sacrifice that is aimed at pleasing the gods to end the drought. The play begins with a family feud, where Yavakri, consumed with love for Vishakha, his childhood sweetheart and wife of his arch rival, sets out to destroy her entire family. His ambition and thirst for power is met with equal force and violence by Pravasu, Vishakha’s husband and his uncle. As these opposing worlds collide, they bring forth a diabolic energy that engulfs everything in its path. At the end, it is the sacrifice of two innocent lovers, Arvasu and Nittlai, that restores order, convincing the gods to send rain.

The piece attempts to find physical and aural images that do justice to the complexities of the text. When the Brahma Rakshash and Paravasu, for instance, confront each other, both actors decided to perform the sequence on a swing. The scene happens mid-air, where they hit out at each other, are upside down or on top of each other on the swing. The sense is that they are clamouring for mukti, for redemption, for peace. We worked with tiny movements, each magnified and made very large so that every detail, every intake of breath, becomes a physical force and magnifies the performance.

There are different actors playing the same character at different times — which compels the audience to not engage with a character as much as with the ideas and possibilities those characters represent. These ideas as well as the actors constantly change in the play and, at times, the narrative line may be a little hard to understand. But, our attempt is not so much to convey the meaning or the story but to share an experience of this world and allow each audience member to engage in the meaning-making process. In my others works also, be it The Doorway or Notes on Chai, if two people in the audience find two different meanings of a sequence.

IKEA to unveil its first store model in India

IKEA India is all set to participate in ‘Make in India’ week in Mumbai, from 13th – 18th February. For the first time, IKEA will showcase a model of its first retail store in India. The IKEA store model will be inaugurated in the presence of Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, Swedish Prime Minister, Mr. Stefan Löfven and IKEA India CEO, Juvencio Maeztu in Hall No. 4, Swedish Pavilion.

During this week, IKEA will also showcase a glimpse of its supply chain history in India, some success stories where IKEA has driven innovation and sustainability initiatives, such as 100% more sustainable cotton in its products, 100% LED in its lighting range and a new PUNJA loom which it has innovated with its supplier in Bhadohi to revive the famous Indian handmade carpet industry.

IKEA has made longstanding contribution in sourcing more sustainable from cotton farms in India and today uses 100% sustainable cotton in all its products. It is looking at sourcing many new materials like sustainable bamboo, wood, and particle board with low formaldehyde from India and is actively working with government and organizations to make it happen.

Under the ‘Make more in India’ drive looking for new suppliers in India, it has recently inked new supplier partnerships in Telengana and Karnataka, not only in existing categories such as textiles but in new categories like furniture and mattress. Under the same initiative, IKEA isalso attracting its global suppliers in Europe to come and invest in India.

Treebo expands its operations to Pune and Kolkata

Treebo, a Bangalore based tech-enabled chain of reliable hotels today announced the launch of its operations in Pune and Kolkata. The startup will initially launch one property each in these cities, thereby extending their presence to 52 hotels in 11 cities. With Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad already covered, the company has now established presence in all major metros in India.

Commenting on this expansion, Sidharth Gupta, co-founder of Treebo said, “Expanding into Pune and Kolkata is a significant milestone for us as these are important travel destinations for both business and leisure traveller.
