Second edition of RenewX commences in Hyderabad

The announcement of the second edition of RenewX comes at a time when renewables continue to increasingly carve a bigger space in the country’s generation sphere, encouraged by government funding. Green power, for instance, is driving the growth in India’s electricity generation as the total installed solar capacity, including rooftop and off-grid projects, has crossed 10 gW, according to latest government and market data. On a pan Indian scale, while Tamil Nadu has the highest installed solar energy capacity, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana follow closely along with Rajasthan and Gujarat. The renewable energy sector has recently got a further impetus with the government announcing an ambitious scheme to double solar power generation capacity under the solar parks scheme to 40,000 megawatts (mW) by 2020, with Rs. 8,100 Crores assistance to fund 30% of the initial project cost of
developers. In 2017 itself, India is expected to add new solar capacity of 8-10 gW, a growth of 137% over last year, a recent report by Bridge To India, a green energy-focused consultant, indicated.

Treebo expands its operations to Pune and Kolkata

Treebo, a Bangalore based tech-enabled chain of reliable hotels today announced the launch of its operations in Pune and Kolkata. The startup will initially launch one property each in these cities, thereby extending their presence to 52 hotels in 11 cities. Students will learn how to use gemmological instruments to grade and identify diamonds; how to detect synthetics, treatments, simulants and fracture-filled diamonds; and how to confidently speak the language of diamonds to suppliers, vendors and customers.

In addition to classroom lessons, GIA facilitates hands-on learning through regular market visits – such as manufacturing facilities and retail houses – to gain an understanding of day-to-day business. Students have a unique opportunity to experience the journey of a diamond from mine to market.

IKEA announces its First Land Purchase in India

The site is situated in HITEC city Hyderabad

IKEA Group, the leading Swedish home furnishings company today announced the purchase of its first land parcel to build retail stores in India, in the city of Hyderabad. This step is yet another affirmation of IKEA’s expansion plans in India. The company is in parallel evaluating suitable sites in the cities of Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi NCR (National Capital Region) to open 25 stores in the long term.

The strategically located, 13 acres site, is close to the IT hub in Hyderabad’s HITEC city and is within easy access to public transport and next to an upcoming metro line.

Talking on the occasion, Honorable Chief Minister of Telangana State, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao said “It’s a matter of great pride for Telangana that IKEA has initiated its expansion plans in Hyderabad. We believe that IKEA will bring best business practices, great employment opportunities and contribute to the overall development of the city. It’s a priority for the state government to attract global brands which can bring modern processes, global know how and innovation. We believe that IKEA will work as a catalyst in our development plans. The government is committed to provide the necessary support to IKEA for its future expansion plans in the state.”

IKEA has been sourcing from India for the last 28 years and it plans to double its sourcing volumes in the country by 2020. Around 45,000 people work directly for 50 IKEA suppliers in India and about 400,000 in the extended supply chain. IKEA has recently organized three “Make More in India” campaigns, including one in Telangana, to look for new suppliers.
