airtel launches new IPTV plans
airtel has introduced some new IPTV plans. And no there is no good news.
The two new plans offer similar speeds but have different number of television channels included in the package.
Here are the basic details:
airtel IPTV 1099
Rs. 1099 plus taxes
2mbps till 10GB
256kbps after that
109 channels with 33 in timeshift
airtel IPTV 1199
Rs. 1199 plus taxes
2mbps till 10GB
256kbps after that
139 channels with 45 in timeshift
As you can see, these plans offer 2mbps compared to the top speed of 1mbps on older plans. But the fair usage policy limit is 10GB.
The company has also failed to add a lot of new channels that have launched over the last 2 years.
Airtel launches new set-top-box (mc108li) for their IPTV service
airtel has launched a new set top box model for their IPTV services. The new model is in black color and has some new features missing from the previous model.
Supports Time-Shift-TV, Live TV, TV on Demand (TVoD), real movies on demand
Supports Value Added Service (VAS) such as interactive message.
Supports Value Added Service Platform, such as JVM.
Supports Standard Definition TV (SDTV).
Supports H.264 multiple streaming media.
Supports audio formats such as MP2
Supports composite video output, S-Video output or component video output.
Support configurable High Definition (HD) output resolution (720P, 1080i, 1080P).
Supports DRM protection.
Provides one 10/100Mbps adaptive Ethernet interface.
Support USB2.0 (High Speed)
Provides one IR remote control.
User-friendly Electronic Program Guide (EPG)
As you can see, it does have support for HD broadcast but for now they are sticking with SD streaming.
Airtel IPTV launching in Bangalore this week!
Bharti airtel has announced that they would be launching their IPTV services in Bangalore this week.
airtel provides IPTV services through their Digital TV Interactive platform.
The company has been offering these services in Delhi NCR region for around two years now.
airtel IPTV offers competitive pricing when bundled with their broadband packages.
However, looking at the mess they have created with their new internet packages, we can only warn heavy internet users to think before applying for this connection.
Airtel launches new IPTV plans with Fair Usage Policy
Airtel has replaced all the existing plans with three new plans for their IPTV services (Airtel Digital TV Interactive). All of these plans are now subjected to their fair usage policy.
Two of these are combo plans which include both broadband and IPTV charges. One is a top-up plan that can be added to an existing broadband plan.
Here are the details:
Price: Rs. 999 plus taxes
Speed: 512kbps unlimited
Fair Usage Policy: After 100GB of data transfer, speed is restricted to 256kbps.
Price: Rs. 1299 plus taxes
Speed: 1mbps unlimited
Fair Usage Policy: After 100GB of data transfer, speed is restricted to 512kbps.
Top Up @ 299
Price: Rs. 299 plus taxes
Airtel Digital TV Interactive IPTV plans have fair usage policy on broadband packages!
Airtel Digital TV Interactive package page does not mention about any fair usage policy applicable on the download speeds.
But the same plans accessible from a PDF file describing them in TRAI format highlights the FUP applicable on all the plans.

Airtel has become strange in a way they detail their plans and packages. The company announced a couple of months ago that they are going to upgrade speeds of their unlimited plans by June this year. The company did not clarify several things…

What happens to folks who are on IPTV plans.
What happens to folks who migrated to double speeds paying Rs. 100 during the special offer.
What happens to folks on 2mbps unlimited plans.
What is the FUP limits on the new double speed plans.
Airtel IPTV User Interface Updated
Airtel has finally delivered the much awaited firmware update to the users of their IPTV services.
There are a couple of new features while the user interface has been updated slightly.

Searching of programs in Time Shift mode (Very useful).
Ability to add channels as favorites (Again very useful).
We are thankful of Airtel for these updates! Also because they still have kept off their logo from the broadcast unlike their DTH services.
Airtel Digital TV Interactive IPTV set to get a major update!
Airtel is alerting their IPTV customers about an upcoming software update that would enhance the services offered by their Set Top Box.
The company stated that the update would be delivered on February 2.
Language options on several channels.
Ability to set reminders for programs.
Activation of parental lock.
Enabling of the favorite feature for storing channels.
Enhanced TimeShift EPG with search function.
Airtel IPTV Packages updated!
Airtel has launched new updated packages for the users of their IPTV services.
The new packages have been updated to match the ones launched under the experience promotional campaign for their broadband services.
Here are the details:
Rs. 999 for 135 channels with 256kbps
Rs. 1299 for 135 channels with 384kbps
Rs. 1499 for 135 channels with 512kbps (daytime) and 1mbps (night time)
Rs. 1899 for 135 channels with 1mbps
All broadband connections are unlimited. Night time applies from 10PM to 6AM.
MyWay IPTV Photos
We are using Airtel IPTV at our place. So we were interested in knowing more about MyWay IPTV which is probably the only rival to Airtel IPTV in the Indian market.
