Jet Airways Konnect launched
Jet Airways has announced that they are launching a new brand of airline services.
These services would be offered through their no-frills service named Jet Airways Konnect.
The aim is to cash in on the coming summer vacations in the Indian market.
This airline service would offer cheaper traveling options to potential customers.
This new airline service would connect Mumbai with Bhopal, Udaipur and Ahmedabad in addition to other routes like connecting Chennai with Coimbatore, Madurai and Kochi and Bangalore with Pune and Mangalore.
Jet Airways, Chief Commercial Officer, Sudhir Raghavan spoke at the launch of Jet Airways Konnect: “We are beginning operations of Jet Airways Konnect, our new all-economy, no-frills service, from tomorrow. The airfare will be 10-15 per cent lower on the new service compared to fares charged for our economy class.”
Tata Indicom launches A-GPS service for CDMA customers
Tata Teleservices has announced the launch of their own Assisted Global Positioning System service for their CDMA mobile users.
They are using technologies provided by Qualcomm and gpsOne for this new service.
Tata Indicom representative spoke about this service launch: “QUICKFINDER will ride on the benefits of A-GPS technology and provide reliability and enhanced applications support to our location-based services.”
The service is currently available in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.
It is also just available on two handsets right now: Blackberry 8830 World Edition and MotoRAZR V3.
Mahindra Mom and Me store launched in Delhi
Mahindra Retail has launched its first ‘Mom and Me’ store in Delhi region.
This company is the retailing unit of the Mahindra Group.
Mom and Me stores would cater to infant and maternity care products.
Mahindra Retail managing director K. Venkataraman spoke at the launch: “With the number of working mothers increasing, the concept of pregnancy and baby care has gone beyond the traditional idea. After research, we started with test stores in Ludhiana, Ahmedabad and Pune.”
The second store in Delhi would soon open in Rajouri Garden.
Maruti 800 to disappear from 11 cities next year
Maruti Suzuki India has announced that they would stop selling their low cost Maruti 800 model in as many as 11 cities from next year.
These include the four metro cities in the country.
This is primarily because of the tightening emission norms that would be applicable soon.
Maruti said: “We will not be selling the M800 and Omni vans in the 11 major cities where BSIV norms set in from next year. However, this in no way means that we will discontinue or phase out the models, as these would continue to be sold in other cities and towns where BSIII norms would be applicable.”
The cities where it would not sell from next year are:
Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Surat and Agra.
It would still sell in rest of India because the tougher emission norms would not be applicable in those regions.
Tata Nano might be manufactured in Gujarat
Reports in the media states that Gujarat seems to have won the Tata’s heart to setup their plant for their Nano car.
Tata has been looking for a new destination after they confirmed their decision to move from Singur in West Bengal.
Several states have sent their invitations to the company with big promises.
News sources say that Gujarat government has already begun acquiring land for the plant. The plot seems to be located near Charodi in Ahmedabad.
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are two other states which are working hard to attract Tata to setup their plant in their state. Even Jharkhand and Haryana have shown interest.
It remains to be seen if the reports are correct. Tata is expected to make an official announcement in the coming days.
BSNL WiMax coming to Ahmedabad
Government owned telecom company BSNL has announced that they are now going to launch their WiMax services in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
The company said that the services would be launched this month and users would be able to surf on the web wirelessly.
They would continue to test the security aspects of this service in the coming months.
Principal General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Ahmedabad, PK Gupta spoke about this service: “WiMax facilities are username and password protected, until and unless one does not share their login details at different computers it is difficult to hack into it.”
Kingfisher Airlines announces five new flights
Kingfisher Airlines is working hard on launching their international flights while they expand their domestic services.
The company has now launched five new flights.
These are: Delhi-Chandigarh-Mumbai, Delhi-Goa-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Ahmadabad, Chennai- Coimbatore and more flights between Delhi and Hyderabad.
Kingfisher Vice-President (Global Sales) Siva Ramachandram spoke about these new developments: “There were a number of travelers, be it business or holidays travelers, to Shimla and other hill stations, who were facing problems to visit Chandigarh. This flight (Delhi-Chandigarh-Mumbai) will provide them a better option.”
MobileStore now selling stuff online
Essar Group’s mobile retail chain MobileStore has now announced the launch of its online sales operations.
The company is currently providing this service in 11 cities across the country.
They aim to expand it to other parts of the country in the coming months.
They are for now targeting customers in major cities including Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Cochin, Ahmedabad and Pune.
MobileStore’s CEO Rajiv Agarwal spoke about this new development: “MobileStore would enable its customers to purchase the latest mobile segment without stepping out of their residence or office. Currently, online sale is operational in Mumbai.”
BSNL to work with Soma Networks to provide WiMAX solutions
Indian telecom operator BSNL has said that they are now collaborating with US-based WiMAX solutions firm Soma Networks for their WiMAX initiative in the country.
The two companies would work towards providing WiMAX solutions in four states in three circles.
They are going to establish an infrastructure which would cater to around 20 crore people in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Goa.
The first stage of this plan would see Ahmedabad getting WiMAX network by June-July this year. The entire project would take around three years for completion.
BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal spoke on this new development: “BSNL has awarded the contract to Soma for complete deployment in these states. It’s difficult to put a value to the contract since it’s on a revenue-share basis.”
Soma Networks MD Jatinder Ahuja added: “We would ride on BSNL’s infrastructure and provide our solutions based on the 802.16e-2005 standard, which ensures greater subscriber density.”
Zapak Gameplex now opens in Mumbai
Zapak Digital Entertainment has now announced the launch of their first Zapak Gameplex at I-Max Wadala in Mumbai.
The company has already established similar centers in other major cities in India like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Indore, Pune, Jaipur, and New Delhi.
Zapak said that this center would provide the gamers with a place where they can play the latest games. They would also be able to buy latest gaming machines and other hardware.
The company further plans to provide a similar atmosphere at Zapak Live event which is scheduled to be organized at the “Times Gizmos and Mobiles Show” to be held at World Trade Center in Mumbai.
