Research in Motion hints at licensing Blackberry 10 software again

Research in Motion CEO Thorsten Heins has been quoted as saying that they are still considering the option to license their BB10 mobile platform to other manufacturers.

But this would largely depend upon how successful they are on their own with this new OS once they launch it in the coming weeks.

Blackberry 10 based devices are likely to hit the global market in March-April this year. It is a very important launch for the company as the failure of it would more likely mean the demise of the company.

Heins said:

The main thing for now is to successfully introduce Blackberry 10. Then we’ll see.

RIM faces intense competition from Apple iOS and Google Android in this segment of the market. Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 is also not helping the cause as it targets the corporate segment which is one of the biggest markets for RIM.
