Padmini is collaborating with Fiat to source diesel engines from them.
The company is likely to use the Fiat’s 1.3 liter multijet diesel engine on their mini sports utility vehicle Rio.
This engine is already very popular in India and is used by Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors in their models. Fiat of course also uses it on their own cars in the Indian market.
Padmini Rio was launched in 2009. Sales figures are pretty bad though the new efficient diesel option might enable the company to sell more units in the coming years.
