Facebook to launch connectivity with National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Facebook is set to launch a new feature that would connect their users with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

This feature would enable users to report their friends who might be showing distress on the network.

Facebook would then send an email to the reported user with recommendation to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

The email would contain a phone number along with a link that can be used to start a confidential chat session online.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline spoke about this initiative: “Although the Lifeline on average handles 70,000 calls per month, we have heard from our Facebook fans and others that there are many people in crisis who don’t feel comfortable picking up the phone. This new service provides a way for them to get the help they need in the way they want it.”
