Microsoft to acquire Nokia’s smartphone unit early next year?

Rumors are back again. We have already heard stories about how Microsoft is working on a strategy to acquire Nokia to become a full-fledged mobile phone company.

The latest reports say that the deal could take place early next year but would only include the smartphone unit of Nokia.

This makes a little less sense considering Nokia would not want to turn into a maker of feature phones only.

Smartphone segment is where all the action and profits are. Budget segment has been won by the Chinese companies like ZTE and Huawei. In fact, these Chinese companies are selling smartphones at the prices of top segment feature phones.

Microsoft and Nokia have of course claimed that these rumors are not true.
