Microsoft establishes AdCenter Incubation Lab
Software giants Microsoft have taken their next big step in the online advertisement market by establishing the AdCenter Incubation Lab. This lab has been established in Beijing and would be developing technologies for the company’s upcoming AdCenter. This service from Microsoft would be providing paid search, analytical tools, and other services for advertisers.
The long-term aim of this service is to provide a more comprehensive competition to the market leaders in online advertisement, Google. The company claims that this development center currently has more than 50 researchers currently working on about 40 advertising technologies.
One of the most innovative of the lot is the “video hyperlink ad” which can detect a product in a video clip or movie and make it an advertisement hotspot for a supplier. The viewer of the video clip could then zoom into the product and click through to a detailed description and information on where it can be bought.
This new setup from the company would be run by Ying Li of Microsoft AdCenter in Redmond, and Jian Wang of Microsoft Research Asia in Beijing. Microsoft is currently testing these new technologies in the United States and is planning to launch them commercially in the coming months.
