Mahindra collaborated with United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, International Centre for Hydrogen Energy Technologies and IIT Delhi to develop a prototype three wheeler model powered by Hydrogen.
The company is showcasing it at the ongoing Auto Expo 2012.
Mahindra said that the project is a prototype at the moment and mass production is unlikely to take place for a couple of years as Hydrogen as a fuel is pretty expensive.
The company said: “The aim of this project is to convert vehicles so that they can carry and use hydrogen — a carbon-free fuel — and thus remove all pollutants. Moreover, we also have to look at commercial viability of running a hydrogen-powered three-wheeler as the cost of hydrogen will be around Rs 250 per kg, which is not affordable at all.”
