innertube: CBS launches entertainment portal with videos

U.S. based television broadcaster CBS Corp. has launched an entertainment portal, which offers new programming as well as videos of some of their existing shows for online viewing.

This marks their entry into the ever-growing market for online video broadcasting. Google and YouTube are some of the dominating players in this segment.

Interestingly, they call this new site innertube and the content on this portal is free for viewing. CBS aims to garner revenues through online advertisements.

Some of the initial sponsors of this online portal are big names like Cadbury Schweppes, Chili’s, Pier 1 Imports Brinkmann Corp. and Verizon SuperPages.com.

This section on CBS website comes just after rival network ABC announced their plans to offer its top shows online for free viewing after they have aired on the network.

Leslie Moonves, chief executive of CBS, said in a statement on this move: “With this broadband channel, we’ve essentially bypassed cable and created a general entertainment outlet utilizing existing creative and content resources.”
