Infosys investing around Rs. 150 crores in Kerala
Infosys Technologies seems to be interested in expanding their operations in the Kerala state. The company has announced their plans to expand their operations by investing hugely in the Kerala state. Infosys has been allotted around 50 acres of land by the government of Kerala. This gives Infosys a base to establish in the new SEZ in Thiruvananthapuram.
Infosys already have a presence in the state since 2004 when they started operations in Kerala on January 1, 2004 with 50 software professionals. They now employee around 550 people in the state. Infosys chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy spoke about their expanding operations in Kerala: â€œWe are happy to announce our expansion plans in Kerala. The investment climate in the state has been favorable and in the first phase, we intend to start construction of the Software Development Centre upon the full clearance of the SEZ. Infosys intends to invest Rs 50 crore in Thiruvananthapuram with a capacity to seat 1,250 software professionals.â€
The company has further plans to invest an additional Rs 100 crore in the campus and increase its capacity further by 2,500 seats in the second and third phase of expansions in Kerala. The agreement between Infosys and the Kerala Government would require the company to invest this much in the state in the coming years. This new center established would provide employment to 10,000 people.
