Hewlett Packard has developed a set top box named Vayu Internet Device for television sets.
This product is likely to be sold in the Indian market. The company claims that the product would let television owners around the country to connect to the internet without buying a regular computer.
It has been developed by the HP Labs though HP has not yet decided when it would enter mass production.
The product’s manufacturing costs are said to be around USD 100 which means that it could be sold for cheap in India.
It is based on a customized Linux build and comes loaded with 1 GB of built-in RAM and 8GB of flash memory. Owners would be able to install additional hard disks. It also support Zigbee sensor network, USB ports, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth 2.1 and infrared.
