Greenwood High student Ms. Avani Prashanth of Grade IV has finished Top 2 among Girls in the Girls 9 Age Category in the US Kids European Golf Championship 2016 held at Longniddry, East Lothian, Scotland recently. Avani was the best performing Indian amongst girls in the tournament and played a round of 2 under par on the last day of the tournament to finish with an even-par score of 108 over 3 days. Avani demonstrated superior skill to manage the cold temperatures of 10-14 degrees and wind speeds of 24 kmph that are very different from Bangalore. She also had to adapt to a Links Golf course and very hard greens that do not grip the ball well.
The tournament in the Girls 9 age category was won by Ms. Rosie Bee Kim of UK, who played 5 under par 103 for the tournament. Over 630 junior Golfers across various age categories from over 50 countries descended on East Lothian, Scotland to participate in the prestigious U.S. Kids European Golf Championship, the young champions had a chance to make history at the birthplace of Golf.
Ms. Niru Agarwal, Trustee, Greenwood High International School said “We at Greenwood High are elated at Avani’s latest performance and wish her the best in her future endeavors. We commend Avani for her dedication and persistence towards the sport and would continue to support her with any help we can provide.
