Googlebot-Mobile is now smarter with better user agents

Google has announced improvements to their mobile edition of Google Bot which crawls the mobile optimized web pages on the web.

The company is now using user agents with device information included in them to access the web pages properly.

There are two primary agents in use now:

Feature phones Googlebot-Mobile:
SAMSUNG-SGH-E250/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/6.2.3.3.c.1.101 (GUI) MMP/2.0 (compatible; Googlebot-Mobile/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)
DoCoMo/2.0 N905i(c100;TB;W24H16) (compatible; Googlebot-Mobile/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)

Smartphone Googlebot-Mobile:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7 (compatible; Googlebot-Mobile/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)

Google said that this would enable them to target the actual mobile page being served to feature phones and smartphones and use them in the search result pages. This means that mobile users would no longer see a redirection from the desktop edition to the mobile edition which slows down the loading process.

Google further said:

Since all Googlebot-Mobile user-agents identify themselves as a specific kind of mobile, please treat each Googlebot-Mobile request as you would a human user with the same phone user-agent.
