The deal between the two companies had ended last month and the delay in the renewal sparked rumors that Google would not renew the deal.

We believed that Microsoft would get involved and sign a deal to replace Google with their Bing search engine. That did not happen obviously.

Google’s search deal is the biggest revenue source for Mozilla which essentially runs on a no profit-loss basis. Almost all their products are open source in nature and are offered for free.

Mozilla spoke about the renewed deal: “Under this multi-year agreement, Google Search will continue to be the default search provider for hundreds of millions of Firefox users around the world”.

Google added: “Mozilla has been a valuable partner to Google over the years and we look forward to continuing this great partnership in the years to come”.
