Google has a blog post up revealing about the kind of TLDs they have applied for.
The company said that the top level domains they have applied for fall in four categories:
Our trademarks, like .google
Domains related to our core business, like .docs
Domains that will improve user experience, such as .youtube, which can increase the ease with which YouTube channels and genres can be identified
Domains we think have interesting and creative potential, such as .lol
The first three were pretty much expected. Though the fourth one is rather interesting.
.lol is something that you would generally not connect with a company like Google but looks like that is happening!
