Google Reader set to kill IE6 support along with offline support

Google has announced some updates to their RSS reader service.

Google Reader would soon stop supporting Internet Explorer 6 users.

Internet Explorer 6 however is not the only browser being discarded from the supported list… Google Reader would also stop supporting:

Firefox 1.0 and 2.0, Safari 2.0 and 3.0, and Chrome 1.0, 2.0. and 3.0.

Google is also discarding support for Gears in Reader as they aim towards using HTML5 technologies for similar functionality.

This is part of their sprint cleaning process as they aim to look forward towards newer technologies to power the Reader’s back-end.
