Google has announced that they are now offering Google Earth, Picasa and Chrome as free downloads in Syria.
The company is based in USA and has to comply with local regulations on what they can offer in the international markets.
Google spoke about the previous restrictions:
U.S. export controls and sanctions programs, for example, prohibit us from offering certain software downloads in some countries. Last year we were able to make some of our products available for download in Iran. And today we’re pleased to make Google Earth, Picasa and Chrome available for download in Syria.
