Cuil was launched as a promising startup aimed at taking on the domination of Google in the search engine space.
The launch was a disaster as users found that the service was nowhere near the quality standards offered by Google.
The company had in fact raised around $33 million from prominent venture capital firms.
Cuil founder Anna Patterson is apparently back working at Google now.
Google has acquired seven patents owned by Cuil related to search engine technologies. Most of these patents are related to user interface and not search technologies. Looks like Cuil search technology was not that amazing after all.
