GM records 47% sales increase for a 19 year high
General Motors Corporation has announced amazing recovery news in their sales figures. They have just released reports of a 47% improvement in the figure of sales for the last month, which is a 19-year high for the company. This is mostly attributed to the “Employee Discount for Everyone” scheme the company launched sometime back to attract new customers for their cars.
Paul Ballew, GM’s executive director of global market and industry analysis said in a statement to the media: “I would describe the program as one of our best programs ever, perhaps even stronger than what we saw with Keep America Rolling.†The company sold 558,092 new cars and trucks in June. This is the best sales figure for the company since September 1986.
Their sales figure for trucks at 382,601 itself is a new company record. This is an improvement of almost 68% from last year. Automobiles showed an improvement of 4% to touch 175,491 units. Many of their popular vehicles like Cadillac STS, Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G6, and Buick LaCrosse posted their individual best sales figures.
The program that has led to these amazing numbers ends this coming week and it would be interesting to see what happens afterwards. Mr. Ballew added about the future plans of the company: “We’re not changing our outlook and guidance for the year for the industry right now. I would once again describe it as being comparable to 2004, although in all fairness, given the strength in the first half, we are a bit ahead of where we thought we would be starting in January.â€
Even competition in Toyota and Nissan posted record sales figures for the month of June.
