Fiat might launch Fiat Grande Punto in India
Fiat is on yet another recovery mission for the Indian market. The famous Italian automaker is now preparing to start production from its Kurla facility in Mumbai. In addition, it is also rumored that the company is planning to bring its Fiat Grande Punto for the Indian market. Fiat is now headed by De Filippis Giovanni who was recently appointed the Managing Director of the Fiat’s India Operation.
De Filippis Giovanni said in a statement while talking to a media group: “The factory was badly affected by the recent floods in Mumbai and we have an estimated loss of Rs 75 crores. Repair activity is going on in full swing and we should be ready to start producing the current range of A178 platform-based cars soon.â€
He added: “We are also looking at introducing the revamped Palio range and its variants, which were a runaway success in markets like Brazil when launched in 2004,†he added. “While the Palio continues to be the best suited car for Indian roads, we are looking at bringing in more exciting products.â€
He also said that fiat is looking towards introducing a model in the premium end of the B-segment but did not confirm whether they are indeed bringing the Punto here in India. This car makes a lot of sense for the company for their Indian market considering it comes with an exciting engine option of a 1.3 multijet diesel engine. Grande Punto has been a massive success in the European market though massive investment would be required by the company to bring a new model to India.
They now also have collaborations with Suzuki (for engines) and Tata (for other business activities) and would perhaps utilize them to continue their progress in the Indian market.
