Verizon wins a big cybersquatting judgment against OnlineNIC
US based mobile service provider Verizon has won a major cybersquatting judgment against OnlineNIC.
Verizon had filed a lawsuit against this company claiming they had registered 663 domain names which the end user could confuse with their name.
Verizon is however going to find it hard to recover this money considering no one represented OnlineNIC in the courts.
Verizon said that the court has granted them $33.15 million based on $50,000 per domain name.
The company added: “This case should send a clear message and serve to deter cybersquatters who continue to run businesses for the primary purpose of misleading consumers. Verizon intends to continue to take all steps necessary to protect our brand and consumers from Internet frauds and abuses.”
