Google Chrome Canary now offer support for Gamepad API. This means that you can now play games inside the browser using a gamepad like the one that comes with an Xbox gaming console. Logitech units should also work fine.

Scott Graham has released a demo game on the Google App Engine that makes use of this API. For now, it would work on the Google Chrome Canary edition. Even the recent Firefox nightlies are supported.

Graham spoke about the requirements:

– Chrome Canary for Windows (http://tools.google.com/dlpage/chromesxs). Turn “Gamepad” on in about:flags.
– an XInput supporting gamepad (like a wired 360 controller, or recent Logitech gamepads).
– a relatively decent video card because it’s using moderately heavy WebGL shaders. My highend-circa-2007 video card is fine though, so doesn’t have to be super new.
