Bloomberg has reported that Amazon is definitely developing a self-branded smartphone model that is based on the Google Android mobile platform.
This is not exactly surprising considering the company already sells a Tablet PC based on Android with the Kindle Fire branding.
Amazon’s smartphone is likely to be priced competitively to take on the Apple iPhone in the US market. It could also become a solid competitor to Android smartphones on sale.
Amazon seems to be working with Foxconn International Holdings on this model. Incidentally, Foxconn is also one of the major manufacturers of Apple iOS based devices.
The company is also said to be working hard on boosting their patent deals to ensure that they are not targeted by rival manufacturers.
