Apple adds to the malware protection in Mac OS X Snow Leopard
Apple recently made available the Mac OS X 10.6.4 update for the owners of Snow Leopard OS.
The company did not mention it clearly but they have updated the malware protection in Snow Leopard in this update.
This update targets a trojan that identifies itself as iPhone application.
Apple had dubbed this threat as HellRTS.
Sophos discovered this update. A company representative said: “If you did get infected by this malware then hackers would be able to send spam email from your Mac, take screenshots of what you are doing, access your files and clipboard and much more. You have to wonder whether their keeping quiet about an anti-malware security update like this was for marketing reasons.”
Apple includes the malware protection for very few known vulnerabilities. It is not a replacement for an antivirus product but does provide added security to the Mac users.
