Google and MIT have together announced the release of an open source edition of App Inventor.
Google App Inventor was originally developed by the search engine giant to make it easy for regular people to create apps for the Android mobile platform.
Google discontinued this app last year announcing plans to make it an open source project.
MIT would be handling the development in the open source edition. They would have their own version with the branding MIT App Inventor. MIT said:
People who create modifications from this code base are free to use the term “App Inventor” and the puzzle-piece Android logo in their work. MIT will be releasing its own versions under the name “MIT App Inventor”, which is reserved for the systems actually coming from MIT.
