AMD triple sales to gain on Intel
For the fifth straight quarter, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. made grounds over their archrival and market leaders Intel in the server market, which is worth around USD 15.8 billion. AMD tripled their sales to reach a figure of around 180,000 reaching a market share of 5.3%. Intel dropped down to 94.7% as a result.
AMD have come out with really competitive products in the recent times, which gives Intel a run for their money. Moreover, with big new clients like Microsoft, things only look to get better. Many big computer manufacturers like IBM, HP, SUN all sell computer servers running AMD Opteron chips, which are compatible with both 64 and 32 bit applications.
All these good news have resulted in massive rise in AMD share value in the market this year and as per Bloomberg, they are the best performer on the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. However, they would be facing better prepared Intel in the coming months. Intel is planning to go hyper in the 64-bit processors market and promise that they would outsell AMD by a big numbers next year. They have the advantage of huge infrastructure and this could result in some good competition in the market.
