AMD Barcelona Opteron processors coming out in August

AMD has announced that they would begin selling their much awaited Barcelona Opteron processors in the market starting august this year.

The first of the processors would run at clock frequencies up to 2GHz and they would be available in both standard and low-power versions.

Faster versions of these processors would be made available by the end of the year.

Randy Allen, corporate vice president of AMD’s server and workstation division spoke on their plans for the new future: “AMD has prioritized production of our low-power and standard-power products because our customers and ecosystem demand it, and we firmly believe that the introduction of our native Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor will deliver on the promise of the highest levels of performance-per-watt the industry has ever seen.”

AMD needs to launch these new processors to get back in the hunt as they face intense competition from the market leaders Intel.

However, they better prepare for the upcoming launch of “Harpertown” processors from Intel which are also scheduled to arrive this year!
