Indian government announces 3G roaming agreements are in violation of signed deals

Indian telecom department has asked mobile operators in the country to discontinue their 3G roaming deals as they are in violation of the deals signed with the government for spectrum sale.

Government sources said: “The decision has been taken that this (3G roaming pacts) is in violation of terms and conditions of the license… will be issuing notices asking them (operators) to stop their service with immediate effect. But on penalty, no decision has been taken yet.”

Companies like airtel, Vodafone and Idea signed collaborative deals to let their customers access 3G networks of other operators in areas where they did not have the required licenses.

It remains to be seen how these private players would respond to these new developments.
