Tata Motors planning to setup a design center in UK
Tata Motors already is in talks with Fiat Motors to announce a mega collaboration project. This project should see Tata dealers selling cars from the Fiat group of auto industries. In another news, Tata is also looking into a possibility of setting up a technical centre in the UK to develop passenger cars.
The details are currently being worked out and other Tata companies like TCS and Tata Tech are expected to be a part of it. This entity is expected to look after R&D, designing and software development for passenger cars. A Tata spokesperson said in a statement: “The Company is considering setting up a technical centre in the UK which, we hope, will attract some of the best expertise in Europe to support our passenger car development and engineering plansâ€.
However, no details about the kind of investment Tata would be making in this project. Some sources claim that this project is expected to employ at least 700 people. This would be the first project of its kind by an Indian automaker. The aim is to help make Tata Motors emerge as a collaborative automaker rather than the current traditional hierarchical model.
With the competition from popular brands like Toyota, Honda and the likes is increasing in the domestic market of India, it becomes important for Tata to look at expansion possibilities to stay competitive in the ever-growing Indian auto market.
