Toyota past two lakh figures in automobile sales
Japanese automobile giant Toyota has crossed to 2-lakh milestone in their auto sales figures. The company recently rolled out their 2,00,000th locally manufactured vehicle from their manufacturing unit at Bidadi, Bangalore. The company took around 4 years for selling the first lakh units of their cars however; the second lakh was achieved in half that time span. This figure is pretty impressive considering they do not have any model in the highly active small car segment.
The company has also benefited from stepping up production at their unit from 20,000 units to 60,000 units last year. A. Toyoshima, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said in a statement on this historic event for the company: “This is an indication of dedication and hard work of all our team members and Toyota’s commitment to India. Over the years we have increased the production capacity as Corolla and Innova both have gained remarkable acceptance in the Indian market with both products becoming category leaders.â€
Toyota has seen impressive sales of their Toyota Innova vehicle, which has sold around 27000 units since its launch. They are also present in the Executive Segment with their bestseller model Toyota Corolla. This model is also dominating its segment and commands a class leadership of 32 % of the discerning executive segment in India with sales of 6155 units between January and September 2005.
K.K. Swamy, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor added to the comments made by Toyoshima: “We are rightly poised to launch into the next phase of growth of Toyota in India. With our dealership network increasing from 20 in early 2000 to 51 this year, we hope to intensify sales and marketing efforts to make our products achieve further dominance in the Indian market.â€
