Twitter has revealed a new milestone. The service saw more than 25000 tweets per second hitting their network during the recent screening of Japanese television screening of Hayao Miyazaki’s “Castle in the Sky”.
On Dec 9, the television screening in Japan of Hayao Miyazaki’s “Castle in the Sky” led to 25,088 Tweets per second – a new Twitter record.

It is amazing considering the event was localized to the Japanese market and it broke their previous record by a significant margin.
In fact, the previous record was at just around 8900 tweets per second during the Beyonce’s MTV #VMA pregnancy announcement!
This shows that Twitter is massively popular outside the US market and in languages other than English.
