Ford to come with a global car in India
Honda came to India with their Honda City and Suzuki is almost here with their Maruti Swift. Both the companies called these their world cars suited to the local conditions of the Indian market. Next in the line is American Auto Giant Ford, which is planning to bring in their World Car.
The company plans to launch later this year a car completely designed and developed in Australia. It would be first launched in the Indian market and it would be manufactured in Ford’s plant near Chennai. Ford would also be exporting this car from this hub to their markets around the world.
The model is currently codenamed ‘B376’ and it is expected to be positioned in the entry-level ‘D’ segment model in India. It would be filling in the gap between Ford Ikon and Ford Mondeo in the Indian market taking on the very successful Honda City and GM’s Chevrolet Optra.
Ford is expected to launch this vehicle with both petrol and diesel engine options, which will make it a viable option in its class. The car is expected to cost between the range of 7 to 9 lakhs. The company expects to launch the car with highly localized materials to keep the manufacturing costs low. However, there are no signs of a smaller sized car from this auto company in the near future.
