Federal Bureau of Investigation warns about e-mail scam
The Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States has warned the internet users in the country about a scam involving unsolicited e-mails. These email messages pretends to be coming from the federal agency and tries to frighten the user claiming that the FBI is monitoring their internet usage.
The mail also claims that their internet usage is being recorded for any illegal activities and are advised to open an attachment to answer some questions. The agency has clarified that they are not involved in any of these mail messages and they do not do send any other unsolicited e-mails to the public.
Considering the fact that attachments in email has become one of the prime sources of viruses and works on the internet, they have also advised the users to not open any such files in email messages from unknown senders. The FBI is also trying to investigate the origin of these emails and advices the users who receive such mails to report them by visiting the Internet Crime Complaint Center at http://www.ic3.gov.
