Swaraj Mazda to expand production of commercial vehicles
One of the prominent manufacturers of commercial and passenger vehicles in the Indian market, Swaraj Mazda is planning to invest around Rs. 250 crores. The aim is to treble its manufacturing facility to 36,000 vehicles a year. The company is also planning to set up an in-house bus manufacturing facility with a capacity to build 9,000 buses a year. These plans were revealed by Yash Mahajan, Group’s Chief Executive.
Mahajan was addressing a press conference at the launch of a 30-seater ultra-luxury bus at Chennai. Swaraj is expecting the market to grow in this segment and they aim to dominate the commercial bus segment in the Indian domestic market. Tourism is a booming market in India and state transport corporations, which have not expanded their fleet for years, are likely to be among the prospective buyers.
Swaraj Mazda also has technical tie-up with two Malaysian companies and are contemplating going into collaboration with another Japanese major. They however declined to reveal more information about these possibilities. Swaraj Mazda is also expected to launch a 41-seater bus soon developed in collaboration with their Malaysian partner. Another 24-seater product is under development as per company sources. The expansion plan would take around a year and a half.
