Motorola aims to revive Motorola Rokr mobile phone
With rumors in the market pointing towards an Apple iPhone, Motorola has announced their plans to revive their own Rokr phone developed in collaboration with Apple. They are going to add a bunch of new services to this phone and provide better facilities to the consumers. Motorola’s partner in this process, Cingular also wants to get it right the second time.
Apple launched their iPod nano along with the Motorola Rokr. The phone came with just a subset of features that the market and the consumer expected from this phone loaded with the Apple iTunes application. This all led to a disappointing start for the phone, which was aimed towards providing iPod functionality on a mobile phone.
Motorola however still claims that they have sold more than 500,000 ROKRs worldwide. The updated model of the Rokr phone would come with a 1-megapixel camera, a 3.5mm earphone jack and will be able to hold not 100 but 1,000 songs. In addition, it would also have a better-looking design. The current model was snubbed down by the critics to be a very old-fashioned looking mobile phone.
This updated model is also expected to include streamed commercial-free music radio, and access to a music to mobile retail service. Looks like Motorola now aims to develop their own iTunes powered phones.
