Sony Ericsson launches J220, J230 and Z300 mobile phones
Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has announced the launch of three entry-level mobile phones. These new models are J220, J230, and Z300. The company is seeking to broaden its portfolio so that they are no longer known in the market for higher end expensive mobile phones. The company has also benefited a lot from its walkman range of mobile phones, which have sold well in the market.
While, J230 comes powered with a Radio, Z300 is a clamshell handset. Sony Ericsson Nordic product market chief Per Alksten spoke to a media group about these new handsets and said that they are expected to cost around 1,000 Swedish crowns. This comes close to their average selling price in the third quarter of 149 euros.
Sony Ericsson also said that by launching these low cost mobile handsets, they are balancing their range of products to maintain profitability with volumes. Market analysts believe that until now only Nokia has shown that manufacturers can remain profitable by launching cheaper handsets. Now it is Sony Ericsson’s turn to prove the same.
Most of the emerging mobile markets in the world like India and China prefer low cost mobile solutions. Sony Ericsson would have to get their development procedure correct to keep making money on these cheap products.
