Apple launches Apple iMac G5

Apple has finally brought the much needed power upgrade to their range of iMac computers. The company has unveiled the new iMac G5 during their much in news special press event in San Jose, Calif. on Wednesday. This comes in addition to the iPod Video that is also expected to become a huge hit in the coming days.

This new updated series of iMacs would be made available in the stores from next week and prices start at US$1,299. The complete package also comes with new software and new functionality — including a remote control and built-in iSight webcam. Apple CEO Steve Jobs said during the launch: “We introduced the third-generation iMac about a year ago. I’m pleased to report we’ve sold more than one million of them.”

The remote control would allow the users to view video content, listen to music, and view videos without needing to be right in front of the computer. While, Apple’s iSight, a video webcam is being offered as an add-on peripheral to enable video conferencing. Apple has also managed to take off some fat from the current generation iMac by making it 1/2 inch thinner and 15 percent lighter.

Like the current version, the new iMacs are available in 17-inch and 20-inch widescreen configurations.
