Acer to target US and Chinese markets

Taiwanese tech giant Acer is now aiming for the ever growing Chinese and highly competitive American market to expand their user base. The aim is to challenge the domination of the Dell Inc. and Lenovo Group Ltd. in their home markets. In addition, they plan to grow their own brand by up to two-fifths in 2006.

Acer trails companies like Dell, Hewlett Packard Co. and Lenovo in the global market and now wants to lessen the gap between them and the leaders. Acer has also unveiled their goals of improving the sales of their Acer-branded laptops and desktops to reach $10 billion to $11 billion next year versus $8 billion in 2005.

The company has recently tied up with retailers and distributors such as Circuit City Stores Inc to expand their availability in the various markets. President Gianfranco Lanci said in a statement about their goals in the coming months: “We want to be number three by 2007. We think we can pass Lenovo.” Lenovo controls around third of the market in China. And it continues to remain one of the biggest target markets for the company along with the USA.
