Yahoo! continues to dominate online portal and news market
Google might be the king of searching, but when it comes to overall services and web portal market, Yahoo! continues to dominate. They still get the highest number of online visitors to their website offering plenty of services and also happen to be the top destination for online news hunting.
These facts were released by a market research firm EMarketer Inc. that found that Yahoo! led the top 10 Web sites among U.S. home and work Internet users with 101.3 million visitors in August. They were followed closely by Microsoft website with 95.6 million visitors and Microsoft’s MSN web portal with 92.1 million.
Google managed to get around 80.4 million visitors followed by America Online Inc.’s 75.7 million. 55.2 million people visited the popular online bidding website eBay and 39 million on MapQuest. Amazon.com, RealNetworks, and Weather Channel completed the top ten. For news sources, Yahoo! again was the market leader with 24.9 million unique visitors.
MSNBC followed it with a close 23.8 million visitors. CNN, AOL News, and Gannett Newspapers completed the top five destinations for news.
