Creative launches Zen Vision: M to take on Apple iPod Video

Creative Technology is going offensive against the leaders in the digital music and video player market Apple. They have already announced plans to sue the Macintosh maker over the misuse of their owned patent, which related to the user interface of a music player and they have launched a new product in the market, which offers more features than the Apple iPod Video product.

Creative has launched the 30GB Zen Vision: M and they claim that it should give good competition to the market leading Apple iPod Video. The player offers MP3 capabilities and comes with a video player, photo viewer, and FM tuner. Sim Wong Hoo, Creative’s CEO talked about this new product: “We designed the Zen Vision: M to display four times the color of the 30GB iPod that plays video, and to provide twice the battery life for video playback.”

The product comes with a 2.5-inch high-res 262,144 color LCD display and includes a vertical touch pad. It weighs around five ounces and measures in at 4.1″ x 2.4″ x 0.7”. Interestingly, the device looks pretty similar to the iPod range of audio players which it plans to take on. Creative however disagrees and claims that they worked on this design for a period of a year or so.

The 30-gig player is capable of storing thousands of photos, up to 15,000 songs or 120 hours of video. This means it can offer up to 14 hours of music playback and is compatible with MP3, WAV, and WMA audio file formats. It conforms to the Windows Media PlaysForSure technology and as a result, the owners of this device can use various online music download and subscription services excluding the iTunes of course.

Zen Vision: M also comes with support for TiVo To Go, which lets users transfer and watch television shows stored on their TiVo DVR. It is also loaded with a personal organizer, which can synchronize with Microsoft Outlook to transfer contacts, calendars, and to-do lists. It also improves on its feature range by offering integrated FM radio with recording capability.
